Alright episode 90. We’re back Rob.
Rob Broadfoot 0:22
Episode 90.
Don Mock 0:23
I know. Can you believe it?
Rob Broadfoot 0:24
We’re inching our way towards 100.
Don Mock 0:26
I know it’s pretty exciting.
Rob Broadfoot 0:28
15 minutes at a time.
Don Mock 0:30
Slowly but surely. Alright. Well, we got a weird topic for today. This was suggested by my daughter, I’m gonna read it the way that she suggested it. And then we’re gonna riff off of that, and probably go in a different direction, right? But the topic would be how would we react if an alien sentient species asked us to do some of the redesign for their own home planet? Right. So kind of an interesting topic, you know, I mean, designing or branding an alien planet. The problem I think, with the question is, we don’t know anything about the planet, and the Aliens aren’t here to tell us. Right? So so maybe we flip it, and we go, you know, we know a lot about Earth. Yeah. What if? What if we kind of flip the script a little bit and then go, Hey, how would we brand Earth for alien species?
Rob Broadfoot 1:22
Yeah, I mean, typically, when we start working with a new client, we do a kickoff session, which either involves just a nice deep dive discussion. Where we learn all about their business or service or whatever, or we go visit their factory or plant or whatever it is. This would be a difficult one we got, we can’t go there. Unless Elon could get us there, we can’t go there.
Don Mock 1:45
Well, he overshot his Tesla, didn’t he shoot his Tesla to Mars and then realize the calculations were wrong. And it wasn’t going to hit Mars or something.
Rob Broadfoot 1:52
I don’t know, he can’t even put a sign.. so we couldn’t go there and visit and furthermore, we couldn’t understand their language probably.
Don Mock 2:05
no, well, we’re gonna have those little Babel Fish things that they put the little earwig into your ear, and then it automatically translates for your brain. Let’s just believe that, so I think it’s more interesting to go, Hey, how would we brand Earth for an alien species? Right? Not that we know everything about Earth. I mean, we still don’t even know what’s done in the bottom of the oceans, right? I mean, a little bit. I mean, we’ve sent some siren stuff
Rob Broadfoot 2:28
I’m not going to make the joke.
Don Mock 2:30
No. Don’t do it. But I mean, point being obviously, we don’t know everything there is to know about Earth yet. Like, like, what’s in the core? All that good stuff. Right. So I don’t know, you know, yeah. How would we, I guess part of the question, would people listen to this will probably be like, What in the hell are these guys talking about? But I think part of the question is, well, what’s the desired result for the aliens? Right? In regards to how would we brand earth.
Rob Broadfoot 2:56
Yeah, do we want them to visit?
Don Mock 2:58
Yeah, is it a tourist or is it a hey, come take over and strip mine us for all of our, delicious minerals, you know, like, or the what’s the intent for the aliens?
I think we’re driving revenue. I think it’s traveling tourists. Come visit us.
Okay, Come check out Earth. There’s many different things to do.
Rob Broadfoot 3:18
I mean, really, What we’re gonna do, though, is then study them and learn about them and figure them out. But under the guise of Oh, come visit Earth, is great
Don Mock 3:26
Yeah, Well, evidently, according to our whistleblower out there that we already have had visitors. Which is an interesting side note, I didn’t even think about while we were talking about this.
Rob Broadfoot 3:36
They are among us.
Don Mock 3:38
Yeah, we’ve recovered biological tissue from a crash site or something like that. Isn’t that What he said? Whoever this guy is, anyway, the intelligence officer, so look it up people anyway. So I think yeah, travel and tourism. What does the Earth have to offer?
Rob Broadfoot 3:50
Well, my first thought when we were talking about this was I would position it get it while it’s hot. Okay. I mean, because I don’t know if you’ve been outside lately.
Don Mock 3:59
It’s like 10,000 degrees outside.
Rob Broadfoot 4:01
Yeah. Or maybe we license Nelly’s It’s getting hot in here, potentially.
Don Mock 4:06
That could be funny. You don’t watch Rick and Morty is that a correct statement?
Rob Broadfoot 4:11
No. I don’t like cartoons.
Don Mock 4:14
Rick and Morty has a funny side note of the alien overlords that come and take over the Earth and what it does, it’s pretty funny.
Rob Broadfoot 4:21
I think you have to lead with the benefit of having multiple climates.
Don Mock 4:28
Yeah. Okay. I’m okay with that.
Rob Broadfoot 4:31
Yeah, I mean, you can go to the rainforest. You can go out to the desert. You can go to the mountain. You can go to the ocean. I think you have to position it that way. Because for whatever reason, I tend to believe that Mars, let’s say,
Don Mock 4:46
yeah, there isn’t a lot of diversity.
Rob Broadfoot 4:48
Not a whole lot of diversity in landscape.
Don Mock 4:49
Got it. Got it. Okay. How about solid footing? You can actually stand on Earth where evidently we’ve got a lot of other planets that are giant big balls of gas.
Rob Broadfoot 5:00
A key benefit? Yeah, I think, yeah. Gravity is a unique selling point, probably.
Don Mock 5:07
Yeah, absolutely. Beyond that, I don’t know What else we want speak to aliens about.
Rob Broadfoot 5:13
I mean, I think you could talk about I mean, let’s assume that they came on how are they getting here on some sort of spacecraft
Don Mock 5:19
Spacecraft versus teleportation? Or versus what?
Rob Broadfoot 5:22
It’s gotta be a spacecraft.
I think you could talk about all of our different modes of transportation.
Don Mock 5:29
Yeah. around the Earth?
Rob Broadfoot 5:30
Yeah, yeah, you can go by boat, you can go by train. You can even defy gravity and go by plane, although they probably wouldn’t care about that, because they came in a spaceship. That might be a little, air travel might be a little underwhelming.
Don Mock 5:41
Yes, I would say I think you’re onto something, though. In regards to diversity, right? Diversity, you know, as a holistic idea. Right. So you were talking about climates, right. But I would say all you know, cuisine,
Rob Broadfoot 5:57
People, people.
Don Mock 5:58
Yeah that’s What I was going to go to next. Yeah. All sorts of different animals, all sorts of different people. You know, it’s kind of different all over the place, which is interesting.
Rob Broadfoot 6:06
Yeah, I mean, I think we would have to figure out somehow have to figure out how to communicate and figured out what they perceived as a benefit, or What they would be looking for. Yeah. Are they looking to learn? Is it oh, we have incredibly advanced something or are they gonna go Yeah, no, you don’t
Don Mock 6:24
Yeah, that’s not a metric. We’re way beyond that.
Rob Broadfoot 6:27
We just traveled like 830 million light years to get here.
Don Mock 6:29
Yeah. Well, you know, and then, you know, again, this is part of the problem of not having a full brief on who the alien people are. Because we could say, hey, history, you know, archeology, you know, all that sort of discovery, right of humanity and sort of What What the planet has been through. But again, if that’s something they’re not interested in, then that wouldn’t be of interest to them, I guess. Because I would say, hey, history is kind of cool. You know, even just our strange, weird, Indiana Jones esque reversion of, of humanity. And What happened to the Mayans and What how, you know What I mean, that that type of thing. Right.
Rob Broadfoot 7:02
I think sports would be interesting.
Don Mock 7:05
For aliens?
Rob Broadfoot 7:05
Yeah. The concept of sports, we play sports against one another.
Don Mock 7:10
Yeah. That is kind of an interesting idea
Rob Broadfoot 7:11
You know, it’s a friendly competition.
Don Mock 7:13
Yeah. Well, I’m sitting here going through my notes here in terms of like, What, What do we have to offer. What is Earth have to offer? We got the climate, we got the diversity?
Rob Broadfoot 7:21
Would we invite them to the Olympics? To participate in the Olympics? That seems like that would be a nice gesture. Come play in our games.
Don Mock 7:31
Well, I mean, you know, I don’t know potentially.
Rob Broadfoot 7:33
That might be a down the road thing.
Don Mock 7:35
Yeah it’s interesting. I guess if you think about it, it’s always kind of.. go ahead.
Rob Broadfoot 7:40
I just had a question popped in my head. Who is Earth’s ambassador? Who do you pick as the ambassador to Earth?
Don Mock 7:48
Who’s like the president of Earth?
Rob Broadfoot 7:49
Who’s the one? Well, yeah, one person who is Earth’s ambassador.
Don Mock 7:53
But now they have to be alive? It’s not a historical thing. You couldn’t pick someone..
Rob Broadfoot 7:58
I’ll open it up. I think that’s fine. We’re talking. otherworldly anyway, so I’m okay with that.
Don Mock 8:03
Gosh, I mean, initially, I go towards politicians, right. But I’m trying to think of who would be a great ambassador for Earth. That’s not an existing politician. Right. And, you know, you do have sports figures, you know, in terms of sheer celebrity, right, that would probably be either a sports person or entertainer, right? If we’re going on that sort of metric system, right, like a musician, you know, something along those lines. Man, this is a tough one because I’m thinking about who the Earth would nominate versus potentially who I might pick.
Rob Broadfoot 8:36
Well, I think you have to think I’d start to think about it from just like a like a species perspective. Like, who do I want to represent the human race? Wow.
Don Mock 8:49
I don’t know. Man, you may have stumped me here.
Rob Broadfoot 8:51
I immediately go to someone like, Martin Luther King. You know What I mean?
Don Mock 8:59
The best of us right?
Rob Broadfoot 9:00
The best of us, because you want to make the best first impression. You want to be welcoming, you don’t want to be off putting but I guess you also kind of want to be.. What if they are not a friendly species? You want somebody
Don Mock 9:15
Who promotes strength? I don’t know, man. I mean, this is really What this one really has me stumped. I don’t have like an immediate like, you know, Here’s who I want. You know, like we’ve joked like Cristiano Ronaldo, I think is the most followed athlete on all the social medias right globally, right? I wouldn’t pick Ronaldo you know What I mean? Like so I you know, there’s who does the world celebrate? Right like, like Nelson Mandela and people like you’re talking about you know, things like that.
Rob Broadfoot 9:45
Dalai Lama.
Don Mock 9:46
Yeah, exactly. Dolly Parton. How about Dolly Parton?
Rob Broadfoot 9:49
Wow that would be a heck of a first impression.
Don Mock 9:51
Everybody loves Dolly Parton. I mean, maybe Dolly Parton is my oddball pick.
Rob Broadfoot 9:58
That’s a great answer. I’m Okay with that
Don Mock 10:01
well, we wouldn’t have gotten there. Had you not said, the Dalai Lama, the Dalai Lama is a great one to, you know, sort of calming. You know
Rob Broadfoot 10:11
David Hasselhoff, the half would be would be a great one. I think you have to pick the best representative of humankind.
Don Mock 10:23
Yeah, something tells me we are not going to nominate one person. We’re going to have like a council. Right. I mean, there’s going to be like a table of 12 people.
Rob Broadfoot 10:35
I think you have politicians, potentially a celebrity.
Don Mock 10:37
Yeah, absolutely. Some musician of some sort? I don’t know, you know, and again, all of this is under the guise that we’re assuming the aliens want to be here and are friendly. You know What I mean? Like, there’s no, there’s no hostile takeover.I think if someone traveled on a spacecraft to get all the way here, they might have natural resources that, you know, that they have on their own home worlds or whatever. Like, they’re not here, to strip mine us. They are not like, Oh, we’re here for the trees. You know What I mean?
Rob Broadfoot 11:09
And you gotta figure I mean they’re coming. They would come in with, you know, I don’t know. I mean, how many people they bring in on one of their spaceships. 20, 25?
Don Mock 11:19
Yeah, I’m fine with that.
Rob Broadfoot 11:20
So I mean, then, you know, they’re not coming in hot and heavy. I mean, if they’ve got enough intelligence to be able to build the craft and actually make it here. You know, they know more about us.
Don Mock 11:33
Yeah. Yeah. I’m sitting here racking my brain on what’s the tagline for Earth? You know, like, like, What is our what’s our catchphrase?
Rob Broadfoot 11:40
Welcome home.
Don Mock 11:42
Welcome home alien overlords. I’m totally fine with that. Well, like, you know, the, if we’re thinking about the travel and tourism, it’s always about What you can do when you go there. Right. I mean, like, obviously, if you’re Florida, and you have beaches, you promote the sun and the beach, you know, that type of thing. Right?
Rob Broadfoot 11:59
So who is our What would be our
Don Mock 12:04
Welcome home.
Rob Broadfoot 12:09
What would be our, who would we lead with? Like, What country would we lead with? Obviously, we would say the US probably Yeah. But like, What would I guess be the top destination that we would want to promote within earth?
Don Mock 12:23
Well, let’s think about it from continents, I mean, Antarctica out because there’s no verse. There’s nothing going on in there. So What continent has the most diversity? Right? It might it might be Africa, right? I mean, it’s large. And you got a little bit of everything there versus North America. Although we got a lot going on, we got beaches, we got the mountains, we got cold. We got you know, but we I mean, we’ve got the desert, but not like, you know, the great Sahara, we don’t have something like that. They’ve got snow. They’ve got that, you know, they’ve got beaches, Africa has got a lot going on over there.
Rob Broadfoot 13:03
I think selfishly, we have to just say come to North America first so that we can get our hands on this little alien creatures first.
Don Mock 13:09
Yeah, exactly. Well, we need to reverse engineer the technology.
Rob Broadfoot 13:13
Right. Right.
Don Mock 13:16
Yeah. Alright. Well, it’s a weird, it’s a weird topic. You know, like, branding Earth for other planets. It’s kind of funny. I’d be curious to see What other people thought about it.
Rob Broadfoot 13:25
Yeah, me too. It’s an interesting question.
Don Mock 13:27
You know, what’s the slogan for Planet Earth? You’re saying Welcome home, which is, hey, we’re welcoming.
Rob Broadfoot 13:32
We’re welcoming. That’s right. Welcoming you into our home.
Don Mock 13:36
I guess before we shoot missiles at you just in case.
Rob Broadfoot 13:39
Yeah, get it while it’s still here. Because we’re trying to get rid of it as quickly as humanly possible.
Don Mock 13:43
Yeah. Get it while it’s hot. Alright. Any other weird final thought? I mean, I don’t know this. You know, again, we need to know more about the aliens. I feel like to be able to craft the message for the aliens, for the big neon sign.
Rob Broadfoot 13:57
I think the aliens are friendly, man.
Don Mock 14:00
When they come they’ll be friendly.
Rob Broadfoot 14:01
I think they’re friendly people. I think they’re we’re all inquisitive. I think they’re just an inquisitive friendly little beings.
Don Mock 14:08
Yes. I think the challenge is that we are naturally defensive, that’s the problem.
Rob Broadfoot 14:15
We’re gonna scare them when they get here because we’re gonna show up with guns blazing, assault Rifles and stuff. Like, whoa, we come in peace.
Don Mock 14:23
We’re here for peace and love, right? I would love to think that the alien overlords are well I always joke that they are overlords maybe they’re not going to take over. They’re just here for a visit. You know, they’re here for a family vacay
Rob Broadfoot 14:32
They are just here for spring break. Spring break on your anus. Coming down here for a visit.
Don Mock 14:38
Yeah, I’m totally fine with that. Alright, That’s a weird one.
Rob Broadfoot 14:42
Fun topic. Let’s us know what you think, branding earth.
Alright where can the people find us Rob?
Where can they find us? Besides on Earth, more specifically on the interwebs www.mocktheagency.com of course, and then on all the socials @mocktheagency. We will talk to you for episode 91 next time.
Don Mock 15:02
Thanks everybody.
